Pulling Power

The Story below is from David Palmer, Blackpool Licenced Taxi Operators, courtesy of NQ Hayek

We collected a total of £420.00 today during our taxi pull,we pulled it from the Tower to the Pleasure Beach and then turned around and pulled it back to North Pier, a big thankyou for all the people who threw some change into our buckets, we were raising money for the Royal British Legion. Quite a few Hackney drivers and owners took part in the pull from various companys. The pound shop on Bank Hey Street kindly donated bottles of water for us and Primark donated t shirts for us all to wear which we had sign written, a big thankyou to the owner of BTR who kindly drove his breakdown truck behind us with his yellow lights flashing to warn other motorists. A builders supply company donated a dozen yellow buckets for the collection and the illumination department lent us high visability jackets.

Tobias Nails it but David Cam must have been asleep!

At a high profile Dinner in Blackpool the other week Tory Party shadow Tourism Minister, Tobias Ellwood MP outlined some of his thoughts on why Blackpool was struggling. To be fair, Ellwood was on a hiding to nothing from the outset. You can always tell a Blackpool Entrepeneur. But you can’t tell him much!!! They especially don’t like being told by jumped up ex army types representing the opposition! ie Bournemouth.

Tobias seems acutely aware of this fact.

Further proof that Tobias isn’t phased by being unpopular came last week when Tobias was attacked by a group of teenage thugs as he attempted to film evidence of their loutish behaviour.

However, Tobias Ellwood hadn’t come to Blackpool to teach his grandmother to suck eggs.

He wasn’t here to tell Blackpool what to do!

There was however a rather large elephant in the room (no, not Ian Fowler) and that was the necessity to promote Blackpool as a brand at every opportunity! Everyone agreed, even Pleasure Beach boss David Cam applauded wildly. Even the Fylde & Wyre Councillors present agreed.

So why on earth has Cam allowed a TV ad for the Pleasure Beach Resort to aired that doesn’t even mention Blackpool?

It is not only madness,

It is suicidal madness!

Geoffrey Thompson would be turning in his grave at the mess that his local Tory party is in, the rapid decline of his beloved Blackpool and the ruination of the business he built up, BLACKPOOL Pleasure Beach

ok………… So Gordon Marsden is a saint?

Fact 1. He rents a flat on Highfield Road at what most reasonable Blackpool people consider an exhorbitant rent.
Fact 2. Moulton Printing, who print the majority of Blackpool Labour Party leaflets happen to have flat above their premises on Highfield Road.
Fact 3. Gordon Marsden paid £475 for “insurance” to Moulton Printing.

This information hardly portrays Mr Marsdens actions as saintly?

I would suggest that at best this is morally corrupt and at worst that the police should be knocking on the door at 132 Highfield Road armed with fraud and embezzlement charges.

A New Police Force?

We recently carried out a community survey in Anchorsholme and we were very surprised at one of the statitistics that emerged. It seems that a majority of people would like to see more policing of our parks, public areas and estates.

No surprise there, I hear you say.

Well, the surprise is that they the policing to be done by their own community wardens. Not by the Police or the Council but by their own.

Their timing couldn’t be better as Cllr. Peter Callow has just announced a freeze on CCTV surveillance. As to be expected, he hasn’t actually come up with a plan B yet.

Anchorsholme certainly doesn’t need a group of vigilantes setting up but the idea of the community policing itself certainly sounds attractive. With the right amount of safe-guards built in and with the support of the local Police and Council this idea could have legs. It is certainly worth examining.

Time called on former Mayor

ONE of Blackpool’s longest serving councillors has died in a tragic accident.
Former Mayor and Stanley Ward Councillor Granville Heap is believed to have fallen down the stairs of his St Annes home at around 5am yesterday.

Granville was a rarity amongst local Councillors in that I never heard anyone say a bad word about him in the 10 years I knew him. Only last week we were joking about how he managed to keep getting re-elected. “Don’t do anything controversial, keep your head down and say nowt!” was Granville’s recipe for success.

During his Mayoral year, Granville wore out Aat Karel and the Democratic Services team. Granville was never a stranger to the pub, so to be given his own bar in the Town Hall was truly the pinnacle of his political career. Granville had charisma in bucket loads and his love of Blackpool shone through as he entertained his guests into the early hours most nights. He was a great ambassador for Blackpool as he embodied the lust for life attitude that made Blackpool famous.

Granville really will be missed by all who knew him

Trams

Blackpool Corporation Rigby Road

p>
In order the speed the trams up from Fleetwood to Little Bispham the Council would need to close off lots of the crossings.

Do we really want this?

Who wants a high speed tram system?

If people want to get from Fleetwood to Blackpool quicker than the current trams do then they could get the No. 1 bus. Closing off the tram crossings opens a whole new can of worms. Who pays for it? What about the massive inconvenience to the motorists wanting to cross the track? Don’t get me wrong, there are some crossings, in Cleveleys and Fleetwood which are dangerous and should be closed due to health and safety reasons. However, these are few and far between. The best place for a transport/living musuem is Rigby Road. The best place for the new tram depot is Blundell Street. Why are settling for second best? All our Councillors and Council officers should be putting all of their efforts behind what is best for Blackpool. ALL the experts agree so why are we being led by bean counters who do not know what they are talking about! This is nothing to do with nimbyism but what is best for Blackpool’l future. Lots of towns have shiny new trams but how many of them have the classic trams running?<
