Trams

In order the speed the trams up from Fleetwood to Little Bispham the Council would need to close off lots of the crossings.

Do we really want this?

Who wants a high speed tram system?

If people want to get from Fleetwood to Blackpool quicker than the current trams do then they could get the No. 1 bus. Closing off the tram crossings opens a whole new can of worms. Who pays for it? What about the massive inconvenience to the motorists wanting to cross the track? Don’t get me wrong, there are some crossings, in Cleveleys and Fleetwood which are dangerous and should be closed due to health and safety reasons. However, these are few and far between. The best place for a transport/living musuem is Rigby Road. The best place for the new tram depot is Blundell Street. Why are settling for second best? All our Councillors and Council officers should be putting all of their efforts behind what is best for Blackpool. ALL the experts agree so why are we being led by bean counters who do not know what they are talking about! This is nothing to do with nimbyism but what is best for Blackpool’l future. Lots of towns have shiny new trams but how many of them have the classic trams running?<

How long would it take to divert your car to one of the many main tram crossings? 1 min? You’re just worried they’ll close the crossing in between anchosholme and cleveleys. Such a huge inconvenience for you to add an extra minute to your journey – violin time.

There have been many near misses with trams there, both cars and pedestrians alike. A simple pedestrian crossing is all that is needed, so the tram drivers need only concentrate on a fixed path when a pedestrian crosses, rather than a mainly unused road plus 2 pedestrian paths.

and how much extra concentration is required to notice an automobile or motorcycle over a small pedestrian? Who exactly is calling for tram times to be speeded up?

If we look upon our tramway as a modern way of quickly transporting people along the promenade then we are going down the road to ruin. People come to Blackpool to marvel at our old trams, they like to take trips on them, they are not in any particular hurry as they enjoy their journeys.
